In the Middle of the Endless Water

  • University of Cincinnati, DAAP Galleries, Meyers Gallery UC MainStreet Cincinnati, Ohio, 45219 United States (map)

Reception: Thursday, October 15th, 5-7pm

A solo exhibition by Julia Orquera Bianco that brings together more than ten years of the artist’s work.

The exhibition traces a journey through different territories and stages in Bianco’s practice, from her early experiences of migration to her most recent work in the United States. In this movement, distance from the artist’s home in Argentina opens questions around forms of belonging, family, and cultural heritage. The ongoing hybridization between what one carries with them and what one discovers in each new geography becomes increasingly apparent in the work.

The exhibition also explores fieldwork as a narrative device, attuning to the place-making dimension of Bianco’s most recent research into Andean-Amazonian cosmology and her work with plants from South and North America. Process, laboratory, and experimentation displace the idea of the finished artwork, making room for expressing relationships of mutual care.

Water runs through the exhibition as a connecting thread: always the same, always different, linking us to the past through its cycles.
