BUILD THE NEST

If you work at a local business, health center, social services or licensing agency, police department, school, or place of worship, you are part of building the Ohio community.

You have a core mission and want to do it to the best of your ability. Trying to enforce immigration laws will divert you from your primary purpose, harm local families, and expose your organization to liability.

If someone in your office needs an interpreter, do not contact ICE or the Border Patrol. Their job is to arrest people, not provide translation. And, every person in Ohio has rights, including immigrants with various citizenship statuses and you, in your place of business.

It’s impossible to determine someone’s immigration status by looking at them or hearing them talk. Making an assumption is racial profiling.

We are all part of building the nest. Know your role. Protect your community.

All children have the right to an education in the United States, and schools should be safe places for learning and social development. The ACLU of Ohio has prepared a detailed guide for school administrators, and CWRU’s Schubert Center for Child Studies created a resource guide for anyone working with children. Honesty for Ohio Education curated numerous resources.

Re-Imagining Migration aims to transform the educational ecosystem to ensure that immigrant-origin youth, their peers, and the communities in which they inhabit flourish in a global society.
